What started as a modest BBQ party has grown to a 5000+ capacity, boutique style festival not to dissimilar to the likes of Secret Garden Party or Camp Bestival. Celebrating its 13th year, Nozstock runs from Friday to Sunday at Rowden Paddocks Farm in Bromyard, this year it featured eight stages of entertainment all with a weird and wonderful carnival theme. Our day started with a flat tyre at Shepherds Bush (fail). Once changed the 3 hour drive from London seemed to whizz by, helped along by the blue skies and a brewing excitement of what the next 24hrs would hold.
Upon arrival we were greeted by some friendly staff at the artist hut, collected our wristbands and made our way to the campsite to pitch our tents. A short walk from our field through to the main gate saw ample (clean) toilets, cash ‘n’ fag outlets and a nice selection of food stalls, not forgetting to mention the a fresh pizza stall which served hangover curing ‘all day breakfast pizzas’ that became invaluable when day turned to night and back into day again! While getting stuck into pints of Herefordshire’s finest Perry cider near to the Orchard Stage we were treated to the sounds of shouty crowd favourite The Anomalies. Looking for some pre gig relaxation soundz we wondered on down to the hill to the Garden stage where to our delight Dubheart were laying down some positive reggae beats, ideal for a summer late afternoon (win!). Next up, Bristol’s Dr Meaker wound up the tempo with their take on live D&B and breaks both acts getting the crowd winding ‘n’ grinding and limbering us all up for the imminent late night manoeuvres. Here’s a clip of Dr Meaker in action, check out the freaky chicken people being lead around by their ringmaster! Ha!

Realising being half cut while dragging wheeled DJ bags along stoney tracks and through the maze of tents is quite hard work we eventually reached our destination; The Rave Yard, an area of the festival which is home to the Cubicles and Bullpen, at sundown the place fills up quickly with dance music heads coming out of their sleeping bag hibernation due to the previous nights shenanigans. The Cubicles was host to dubstep and D&B heavyweights Alix Perez, Borgore and Andy C who did a good job as it was consistently one in one out for the rest of the night. Across the Rave Yard was our home for the next 6 hours, The Bullpen, Sika Studios who host UK Hip Hop / Urban talent during the day had decked out the stage as a large TV Screen with racks of speakers either side. Natalie Coleman warmed the crowd nicely just right for our guest Samantha Blackburn to lay down tribal tech until 1am. Ed Jones then took the reigns adding some dubby tech into mix and a surprise Set from Noz’ favourite Dex then finished the night off on a high. Big thanks to the staff at Noz’ who made us feel right at home and of course, big shout out to all of the peeps who came to the Bullpen to party with us into the wee hour. Here is some footage captured in the Bullpen, the tune is by Frivolous – Red Tide
For those of you that want to go to a festival that feels intimate and well organised, Nozstock is the place to head next summer. We certainly enjoyed our road trip so you should bag a ticket for 2012. For more on Nozstock you can visit their website HERE
